Avengers: Endgame was a beautifully constructed film with a few minor disappointments to me but was nonetheless a worthy sequel/continuation to the otherwise shocking ending of Infinity War. One of the few disappointments was the lack of character interaction. Although Valkyrie’s actress Tessa Thompson is a fan of the Dora Milaje and Wakanda in general her character did not get much interaction with them which to me is somewhat puzzling. We know Valkyrie comes from a very complicated past and in spite of her appearance is in fact older than many characters (including Thor) in the MCU Franchise.
Reasons Why Valkyrie should join or affiliate herself with the Doras:
They are an all-female troop:
Just like the Valkyrie the Dora Milaje are composed of elite female warriors highly skilled in many arts of combat. So this right out the blue would Valkyrie feel somewhat at home since the Valkyrie are also all-female troops.
They are loyal only to the throne:
Just like the Valkyrie, the Dora Milaje took vows to always be loyal to the throne no matter what as such they only answer to their general or king. However, both Valkyrie and the Dora’s had to forsake those vows for different reasons. For Valkyrie, it’s because she blamed Odin for the massacre that befell her brethren, for the Dora Milaje it’s because Killmonger refused to adhere to tradition as well as proved that he is too corrupt and angry to lead Wakanda.
They had to deal with mass casualties:
Part of being a part of a military group means dealing with loss of their troops. Valkyrie had lost her entire platoon (including her lover) to the Goddess of Death, Hela, Odin’s First Born when the King of Asgard sent them to deal with her when she attempted to escape banishment. This led Valkyrie to forsake the throne in anger and self-exile herself, leading all of Asgard to assume that all of the Valkyrie are dead. The Dora Milaje are almost no different and have suffered a few casualties to their group, Xolisa a minor but confirmed member has perished at the hands of Killmonger when he held her hostage angering the other Doras as each member have something of a sisterhood with each other. Not only that but many of the Dora Milaje soldiers have perished at the hands of Thanos due to the blip taking them out of commission for approximately 5 years before being brought back by the avengers. Either way, both the Valkyrie and Dora Milaje have suffered dreadfully due to acts of war.
They are incredibly skilled:
Just like the Valkyrie, the Dora Milaje are extremely skilled in many forms of combat, enough to be considered the greatest warriors of their land. Although the Valkyrie being Asgardians have lived longer are most likely more skilled due to having many lifetimes of fighting experience.
She can in fact train them:
As Valkyrie has many lifetimes of fighting experience and is even older than both Asgardian Princes Loki and Thor who are around at least +1,000 years old as of present time. As such she is more skilled and knowledgeable on the battlefield. She can show the Dora Milaje new or ancient moves and fighting styles that other mortals have never seen before allowing them to fare even better against threats with their own traditional style.
They have a bit of a reputation:
Just like the Valkyrie the Dora Milaje have a reputation not just in wakanda but currently among the world as well. The Valkyrie are known to be highly trained and deadly elite soldiers among all of Asgard given Odin’s desire for peace among realms it is also possible that other worlds are knowledgeable of them and their skills as well. Korg himself (not knowing Valkyrie’s history) told Thor to be mindful of her since she is hard to kill. The Dora Milaje also have a reputation among Wakanda as Prince N’Jobu was mindful not to agitate them. Due to their bald heads and spears, this serves as a dead giveaway that they are in fact Dora Milaje as General Okoye had to cover her head with a wig to avoid attracting unwanted attention. 8 years after the fact due to their role in fighting against Thanos in the infinity war and Battle for Earth as well as T’Challa opening up their borders to the world much of the world now knows of Wakanda’s Dora Milaje. Sam Wilson even warned John Walker not to agitate or fight the Dora Milaje which fell under deaf ears and 3 soldiers left him utterly shocked and humiliated.
They are also retrievers/messengers:
Like the Valkyrie aside from being guards, the Dora Milaje are often sent out of the country at the behest of their king to retrieve something whether it’s a person or an object, or even deliver a message.
They disliked being tried:
As warriors they are bound to have a sense of pride and arrogance. Valkyrie and a member of the Dora Milaje specifically, Ayo, have both struck down an enemy for putting their hand on their arms which is an invasion of personal space and a sign of disrespect.
They have a history with aliens:
Even before the threat of Thanos came to earth, Wakandans do have a bit of a history with extraterrestrial life as their great mound, a Vibranium mountain, was originally a meteorite from space that struck the continent of Africa as of now no one really knows where the meteorite originated from specifically. The Valkyrie due to Odin’s desires for peace have likely assisted in defending other realms during this quest coming into contact with many alien lifeforms.
Some members have something of implied romance with each other:
Although scenes like that have never made it into the theatrical release. The creators revealed there to be some type of romance among the Valkyrie and the Dora Milaje individually. The lead member of the Valkyrie is confirmed to be a bisexual, and during a scene where Loki forces her to relive her repressed traumatic memories, there was supposed a scene where a female member of the Valkyrie walks out of Brunnhilde’s bedroom (implying that sexual intercourse occurred) but the scene had gotten cut. Brunnhilde’s bisexuality was to be explored further in her next major role. There was also supposed to be a scene where the Dora Milaje members Ayo and Okoye exchange an almost flirtatious conversation with each other. In the comics, both Doras Ayo and Aneka had forsaken the throne and became lovers when Aneka was sentenced to death. Even fandoms have noticed the implied romance between Okoye and Ayo and shipped the 2 as well.
