Who Was Ruling Wakanda?

For every Black Panther fan, you’d know that T’Challa following the death of his father King T’Chaka, became coronated king. Though he briefly lost the throne when his corrupted cousin challenged and seemingly killed him, T’Challa managed to fight for his position and successfully killed Killmonger ushering a new era for Wakanda. However, it wasn’t long until Wakanda was brought into another war when the mad titan Thanos was on the hunt for the infinity stones and since Vision (who harbored the mind stone) was made of vibranium as well as the fact that nearly no one else on earth had the resources or technology to push back the savage forces of the mad titan was the best bet and T’Challa was more than willing to put his country on the line. Though they won their battle against Thanos’ forces they lost the war against Thanos himself and as a result of the T’Challa was among victims sadly ushering a dark time for Wakanda.

The question who was looking out for Wakanda considering the death of it’s King. Fans obviously assumed Shuri, because she was never seen dying unlike her brother and both Wright and Bassett seemingly confirmed Shuri did survive and was willing to take over as Queen if she was up for it. However, sadly this was not the case as when promotional art was released it confirms Shuri was among the victims and trailer reciprocated this many months prior. So it couldn’t have been her.

You’d probably think Okoye, because she is a natural leader, a general of the entire Wakandan military, and she could’ve taken over as regent and looking into Wakanda as things are being handled. As the Dora Milaje leader joined the Avengers as well which is shocking considering she was distrustful of outsiders especially Americans. Though it probably wouldn’t make sense considering her dialog in her debut as she claims “I am loyal to the throne no matter who sits upon it” so even if she could her vows would prevent her from doing so, but from her time in Endgame she along with Carol, unlike Rocket, Nebula, and Ant-Man, she doesn’t get a lot of screen time and one can assume she was still in Wakanda by the time the Blip occurred and brought everyone back as her dialog early in the film during a conversation with the Avengers implies she was taking missions over Africa while looking into Wakanda still. Also, the Dora Milaje are the King’s personal elite guard there can’t be a Dora milaje if there was no king but many of them were present during the final battle so it cannot be true.

You can also say Nakia, she is a successful and skilled spy and T’Challa has openly stated she would make a great queen and Nakia herself revealed she thought about it. Though she was never seen in Infinity War because she was out on another mission by the time it took place. Nakia does have great loyalty to T’Challa and her country and probably would’ve looked into the situation herself considering the royal family likes and trust her. She shows expert skills, intuition, and leadership all the traits you’d normally see in a spy and a Queen. She could’ve looked in and ruled as regent in a similar fashion to what she believed T’Challa would do or even better considering her views to help the world and make it a better place.

You can say M’Baku because he is also a natural-born leader who is devoted to his tribe and country as a whole. His relationship with T’Challa has improved also as he was willing to stand and fight by his side against Thanos. He is physically imposing something you’d probably see in a king or a leader to the point where all of Wakanda feared him before he revealed his true colors. The royal family seemingly trust M’Baku following his debut and were willing to submit to his rule if it meant defeating Killmonger which he in good conscious could not accept. So it could’ve been him as well.

Last but not least Queen Ramonda, she is Queen mother of all of Wakanda and obviously has great leadership and is very brave and diplomatic. She will offer sound advice towards T’Challa or anyone. So it would be natural Ramonda was the choice to look after though what if she was grief-stricken like Thor considering she lost both her children and her husband and for 5 years the only legacy Wakanda has. However, considering how fast and accepting she moved on from T’Chaka’s death this can be up for debate considering Wakandans believe that death is simply moving on to a higher plane.

So until the 2nd movie comes out these are the most considerable options over who was ruling Wakanda
